Greetings! My name is Tomlyn E. Speir, or "Tommi" (or even "Tomlette" if you're one of my closer friends, but "Hey, kid" works pretty good too), and this is my NEW AND IMPROVED OR YOUR MONEY BACK Mustang webpage! You may not recognize it since the last time you probably saw it was with the title of "Tomlyn's Amazing Spanish Mustangs" and with dates from the 1990's. I kinda figured it was time for an update: how about you? So, on with the show!

You may remember my gelding Fernando (Choctaw Sun Dance/Margarita), or "Ferdie", from my old page . Then, he was just a good chance at becoming a good horse. These days, he's not only a good horse, but a great one-- and my best friend. Ferdie is now a Multi-National Champion in the American Indian Horse Registry (AIHR), a National Champion in the North American Trial Riding Conference (NATRC), as well as a Grande Conquistador in the Spanish Mustang Registry (SMR).

For such a long list of accomplishments, you wouldn't guess this 10-year-old gelding was only 13.2 hands tall. But what he lacks in size, he makes up for in heart. He's also quite fond of coming up with abilities later in life that would normally show up earlier. For instance, we discovered he could single-foot at the age of 8, and this year he's about a third roan rather than faded black. One of my favorite sayings about the little black is "dynamite comes in small packages" And he lives up too it, too!
Hey, got all kinds of news on everyone's favorite "Little Black Horse"! For starters, let's head back into June 2003. We ran our first 50 Mile Endurance Race ever at Medicine Spring in the Frank Hopkins Memorial, which a crew from Disney was there to film (and I was one of the featured riders for--small wonder I didn't break the cameras. :-P). We did REALLY well, surprised even the Mustangers up on the Mountain, but alas, a win was not to be. I got sick and had to slow down, costing us the race. We did come in fifth, though, and was a "honorable mention" for Best Condition. Congrats to Boy and Diamond, though--the ones who did win.
Now on to the more recent news! We just got home from the 2003 American Indian Horse Registry National Show. It was a lot of fun, as usual, and it was good to see everyone again (and as usual, I got a chorus of "You've gotten so big!" and "You grew up--what'd you go and do a thing like that for?"). We did very well in it, too. We won every event we were in except one and won Overall Junior High Point. (We couldn't go any higher than that, since I didn't have enough people in my class to give me the points I needed for Champion "O" and Overall High Point). Here's some pictures from the show...
I give Ferdie the cue to run down the "home stretch" for Forest Escape and he knows business is about to pick up.
Ferdie and I partner up with Mom and Doctor Wu in the Cherokee Ribbon Race for her
division, Senior Adult. Since I'd already run my time, this run counted for Mom and Doc only. They won first. :-)
*in an announcer voice* This concludes our news radio broadcast. Hehe, sorry, seemed like the thing to do at the time.

Meet Virginia."

I'd also like to introduce you to my 3-year-old filly Meet Virginia, aka "Virgie" (Rowdy Yates/Buck's Girl). She's the daughter of the AIHR National Champion mare you probably saw on my old page, Buck's Girl or simply "Girl". After Virgie was born, I traded Mom (Vik) back Girl for her half of Virgie.

Virgie just got home from Gretna, Virginia and our friend George Schaeffer at Ironhorse Ranch, who broke her into saddle for me. With school and all, I just didn't have the time to break her out myself. Virgie's about 13, working on 14, hands tall at this point, and is a lovely buckskin like her mother. Rowdy's tough and Girl's sweetness--they don't come much better than that!

I took her with me to the National, and she did absolutely wonderfully! She wowed the judge in Green Pleasure into a First place, and awed him even further in her halter class so that she won and then won Reserve Champion "O" at Halter. She's still pretty green, but we're working on her, and she's happy to be home. Thanks for your help, George!

That's about all I have to say at the moment, but if you would like to ask me something, whether it be about my animals or just about me in general, feel free to e-mail me. Recently I wrote a shout-out about some current issues. If your intrested in listening to a 17-year-old make her voice be heard, feel free to take a look! :-) Thanks, and we'll see you around!
