Karma Farms Spring Sale

Vickie Ives on Rowdy YatesNote to Potenital Buyers from Vickie Ives, owner, trainer, Karma Farms: "This was an especially tough winter in Texas. Our East Texas hay supply has never been scacer or higher priced. Several smaller breeding farms sold us their home raised young stock simply because they could not feed them last winter. We now offer them to you at a tremendous savings. And many of these carry some of our Karma Farms bloodlines, including Choctaw Sun Dance and Rowdy Yates."

From Dreams 'N Color Ranch: Stock sired by Born To Run, past AIHR National Color Champion. Here's "Barney", a son of our famous old Broom, sire of Liona, Magneto, Pescante Rojo and many other performers. "Barney" is out of Mora's Spring Dance by Choctaw Sun Dance.

"The Drunk Tank":

Our foreman Curtis George says "we must have been drunk" to buy these 3 and 4 year old geldings and mares, so their pasture got immediately named "The Drunk Tank", and they all got names from drinking songs. They are halter trained, but spooky, having had very little handling in their lives--and not all of what they got was good. They come from excellent Blazing Saddles Ranch stock, but the breeder wasn't a Mustanger and didn't even pick up their papers when he bought their sires and dams from Mac McSwain at the Blazing Saddles Ranch dispersal. There were originally 2 or 3 stallions that sired these guys from 19 mares, so we can't even guess what their true pedigrees should be. The breeder sold the sires and dams at auction, so they likely can't be located to help us get their pedigrees. The breeder gave these young horses good groceries, but not much else. They will be registered with HOA and AIHR, but papers will have to say only "Blazing Saddles Ranch stock" for the pedigrees; nothing else can be proved. We'll have Coggins and get them back used to some handling including brushing up their halter training, and they will be ready to start under saddle. More work here and no pedigrees, but they are real Colonial Spanish Horses, strong and ready for the training they deserve. Looking for the real thing, but working on a smaller budget? If you have the time for the training and TLC these horses need, you can't go wrong here. Just remember, these youngsters are in need of lots more quiet work to build their trust and make up for all the attention they've missed.

Corona con Lima is heavy in foal, probably to Grey Goose1) Corona con Lima--A pretty little 3 year old bred mare, dun roan with an interesting star and race. She is very likely bred to Grey Goose as he was only one not castrated when we bought them. But as the breeder didn't even remember when he had the others cut, any of these geldings in this group just might be the sire. A 2-in-1 deal for less than you'd usually pay for such a good 3 year old mare. But I'd plan on NOT breeding Corona for at least a year to let her catch up from foaling so young. $850.

Grey Goose is likely the sire of Corona's foal.2) Grey Goose --Grey overo 3 year old gelding, just castrated by our vet in March. "Goose" leads, but he is the most mishandled of all the "Drunk Tank", very dubious about people. We are slowly getting him to accept us without fear, but this one will take lots of TLC. $700.

One Bud Wiser is a stout colorful fellow. 3) One Bud Wiser--Bay overo 3 year old gelding. "Bud" is a stout colorful fellow, and easier going than some of the others. He's big enough to start riding now, and his color will certainly attract attention. Have a look at the big spot in his bald face! $800.

Thunderbird Wine is uniquely colored and beautifully conformed. 4) Thunderbird Wine--Dark champagne sabino gelding 3 or 4 years old. This guy looks older than the others, but we'll know when we get around to working with him and I can actually see his teeth. I can only work with one or two or these each day. I'll get more info on Thunderbird up as soon as I start handling him. This one is SO distinctive-looking that I'll bet on his pedigree, at least on his sire's side. If he isn't a son of Masada Blaze (he by Trailblazer out of Masada Millie), I'll eat him! What a pretty fellow-no one else will have a horse this color, I'll bet. $700.

Sangrai Wine is a smaller, stout fellow and friendliest of all this group. 5) Sangria Wine--Flaxen sorrel 3 year old gelding. "Sangria" is the friendliest of this bunch. He's short and stout, and wil be able to handle almost any rider regardless of his shorter stature. I think he'd make a super match to our other trained sale gelding Ticket To Ride. See "Ticket" at our Ready To Ride Page . We'll make you a bit better deal on two, and you can ride "Ticket" now and train "Sangria" as you get time. $750.

Julie at the Bar is a lovely young mare with lighter conformation and good size. 6) Julie at the Bar--Dark chestnut 3 year old filly. Doesn't look bred, but could be as Grey Goose was running with these mares up until he was castrated. This is a classy looking mare with her whole future ahead of her. Ready to train right now. $750.
