2008 Karma Farms Foals

Colts: (Sorry the colts are wet in some of these pictures. We’ve had LOTS of rain this August.)

Unwritten Unwritten (call name “Ritz”), graying grulla colt by Brother Love out of Written on the Wind (Broom/Pocahantas Claybasket). Foaled May 22, 2008. Brother Love is also Sorraia Mustang registered. He has been National Champion Original at Halter at the AIHR National Show three times, a record so far. Pocahantas Claybasket, “Ritz”’s grand-dam, was SMR Show and Games Horse of the Year for 1992. Written on the Wind is also the dam of Child of the West Wind, Curtis George’s fine gelding who performed with us at Breyerfest. “Westy” is on his way to fame, and “Ritz” will be a great performer, too. $650

Accelerate by Rowdy YatesAccelerate (call name “Ace”), curly red dun roan colt by Rowdy Yates out of Red Fern (El Valente/Vendo Majico). Foaled May 22, 2008. Red Fern is a full sister to Beetlejuice, the Hilligoss’ deceased endurance horse. This colt has looks, movement and pedigree plus PROVEN performance lines in both distance and the arena. Add the curly gene and he is a strong stallion prospect. This one could put a breeding farm that promotes on the CS Horse map. $1000.

Red Fern with Accelerate Ace looks great walking or trotting--lots of stride and drive.

Left: Accelerate with Red Fern
Right: Ace walks.

Maggie Mae licks her first foal, Red-Headed Stranger as Curtis George holds the foal. Red-headed Stranger, loud red dun roan by Rowdy Yates out of Maggie Mae (Dance Magic/Maggie). Foaled June 12, 2008. Maggie Mae is out of the great old HOA foundation mare Maggie (Crane/Blue Monday). Looking for performance, high % foundation Bookcliff blood and that classic Rowdy Yates look, including the hair? This is your colt! “Stranger” looks just like his sire in a red dun. Won’t that red mane look super when it’s past his neck? $800.

Red-Headed Stranger by Rowdy Yates Red-Headed Stranger is a Rowdy look-alike in conformation.

Left: Red-Headed Stranger
Right: Stranger is balanced and correct.

Jack Sparrow is just beginning to show appy coloring on his withers and specks on this back. Jack has substantial bone like the Belsky CS Horses. Jack Sparrow, grulla appaloosa colt by Rowdy Yates out of Ilo's Bonita Shaquita (Desert Wind/Ilo's Phantom Rose). Foaled May 13, 2008. “Bonita” is a 7/8's Belsky mare so “Jack” is 7/16ths Ilo Belsky breeding. If “Jack” was a filly, there wouldn’t be a sale offered on this one! Belsky blood is getting rather rare, and Jack’s dam “Bonita” rides the best, even though we trained her at age 11. He is just starting to show spotting right over his withers with spots coming into his strong dorsal stripe. I thought he’d stay grulla until the new hair proved me wrong. What an outcross to other appy lines! “Bonita” is the only appy colored Belsky left, I believe. If you know of others, please let us know. $1200.

Jack Sparrow by Rowdy Yates Jack Sparrow has a smoothly arched throat with slightly heavier muscling than many of Rowdy's--and superior action.

Left: Jack Sparrow
Right: Jack has lots of highlighting and smutty markings that we can only hope will remain as he ages.

Jack is shedding out with faint light and dark spots just beginning to appear.

Left: Jack Sparrow was still very wet after a hard rainshower when these pictures were made. Will try to get him in dry shots as soon as we can.

Just look at the fabulous color of Thunderhad Hawkins!Thunderhead Hawkins, grulla appaloosa colt, rabicano mane and tail, by Building A Mystery out of Mora's Spring Dance (Choctaw Sun Dance/Kiamichi Mora, she by Cheyenne Autumn out of Miss Kiamichi Penny). Foaled April 23, 2008. Simply fabulous looking colt! This one is co-owned with my foreman Curtis George and neither one of us wants to sell him, but we might be tempted if the offer is substantial and the home will promote him. It’s not as if we need another stallion, but just LOOK at this guy! His dam Mora’s Spring Dance is well-known for her winning offspring including Thunderheart, Born To Run, Willow Dance, Flashdance, and Bright Dance. Bred to Building A Mystery for the first time in her distinguished broodmare career, old Spring may have out done herself this time. We don’t think we’ve seen a better built Northern type since El Tigre Segundo. A super head, striping and will he keep that silver mane and tail? Only time will tell, but we are keeping our fingers crossed. No real appy spots as yet but the striped hooves, sclera eye and very mottled skin were there at birth. He’ll likely continue to color, but I almost hope he doesn’t lose too much of the silver grulla. All I can say is “Wow!”

Thunderhead Hawkins is a head-turner! Hawk had the Northern look of his dam but more brilliance.

Left: How about this "Hawk"? What a beauty!
Right: from the rear his dorsal is prominent. He has brindling on his legs and even very faint stripes up the underside of his neck.

Face markings on I've Got the GunsI’ve Got The Guns, dark red dun colt by Tambourine Man out of Rose’s Ni’on Hon’ci (Thunderheart/Sharron’s Rose). Foaled April 16, 2008. This colt’s dam “Honci” is the only purebred CS daughter of Thunderheart (Rowdy Yates/ Mora's Spring Dance, she by Choctaw Sun Dance out of Kiamichi Mora). Thunderheart is an AIHR Hall of Famer, a NATRC competitor and well-known Karma Farms promoter. He’s the number one mount for Curtis George, but “Thunder” is so versatile that he has wins under all sorts of riders including our lesson kids. Just look at the potential for a distance horse here. “Honci’s” dam Sharron’s Rose continues to win for Dreamcatcher Farms in SC in AIHR shows, open English shows, and on the trail. “Gunner” is pretty enough for a stallion, but we think his best use will be under saddle, and what a champion distance gelding he’ll make. This one is co-owned by Karma Farms, TP Ranch and my foreman Curtis George. “Gunner” will be a big one with lots of bone, an easy gait and super trainable temperament. $750.

I've Got the Guns by Tambourine Man.

Gunner has a very broad dorsal stripe and lots of barring.

The lovely champagne overo distance sire Tambourine Man. A side note on Tambourine Man, champagne overo stallion (Choctaw Sun Dance/Kiowa Morning Song): If you keep up with NATRC, you probably are familiar with “Rambler”, a Tambourine Man son that won First Place Open Junior Horse in the nation in 2007. In 2008 Jenna Galliher left the Jr. Division early, starting Rambler in the Open Lightweight Division where there is more competition and more opportunity to collect national points. Through July 2008, Jenna and Rambler are standing first in the nation in Open Lightweight. The Gallihers also own and stand a Tambourine Man son who is just beginning his CTR career and already has several wins. Frankly, we’ve never met a Tambourine Man foal that we didn’t love. There aren’t too many of them. We have bred “Tam” sparingly due to a foreleg fracture from a catastrophic injury when he was 4.

Filly:

The Gypsy by Building A Mystery. Gypsy's marking are unique and striking. The Gypsy, dun overo filly by Building A Mystery (Rowdy Yates/Liona) out of Haista Lin (Istahota Issiwien/Buffalo Gal). Foaled May 23, 2008. Okay, we aren’t pricing Gypsy at this time. Her color is so unique--she looks as if someone used her as a graffiti wall (but what does it say?). The thunderbird on her left side is obvious. And how about that dark star in her bald face? Since Building A Mystery has so far been rather skimpy with his fillies, we may have to look at saving this one for the farm. She has broodmare bloodlines that can’t be duplicated anywhere: very close-up to great broodmare sisters Espéranza and Buffalo Gal, and also Liona, one of the greatest winners in the history of CS Horses. Liona is a daughter of Broom out of Starlite, she by Tiger Eye out of Country Club. Add Jack Slade, Midnight Special, Tiger Eye and San Domingo and we believe Gypsy’s proven Cayuse foundation pedigree to have depth unequaled today. Look at her with dam Haista Lin--she’ll have size, too.

Gypsy trots after Haista Lin.

Late Foals Yet To Arrive in 2008:

Willow Dance Willow Dance and Noah Halupa winning Youth Pleasure at the AIHR National Show in 2007.Willow Dance (Broom/ Mora's Spring Dance, she by Choctaw Sun Dance out of Kiamichi Mora) is bred to Tambourine Man for a Sept/Oct. foal. “Willow” is the last Broom foal, a full sister to Born To Run. She was AIHR Green Pleasure Champion in 2002, and won Youth Frontier Period Costume and Youth Pleasure at the 2007 AIHR National, ridden by Noah Halupa. We bred her after the National when we realized that she was 10 years old and had not yet produced a foal. What a waste that would be if we never got one! And as Willow is high % Jones, we chose to breed her to “Tam” and get a linebred Choctaw Sun Dance with strong Jones foundation blood. See info on Tambourine Man above. We are really looking forward to seeing this one. “Willow” is a full sister to Dreams ‘N Color’s Born To Run, and we all know how good old “Barney’s” babies are for sweet temperament and good looks.

Phantom's Fancy LadyPhantom’s Fancy Lady is bred toTambourine Man for a Sept/Oct. foal. “Fancy” is a really lovely mare, double bred Windrift's Jack Dandy (75% Ilo Belsky breeding). Her pedigree: Sire: Ilo's Phantom Blue Chief AIHR O-2150, SSMA #1553, he by Windrift's Jack Dandy out of Belsky's Beauty. Dam: Cimmaron Lady SSMA #1554, she by Windrift's Jack Dandy out of Carmin's Girl SSMA #678, she by Carmin’s Chief, the well-known Jones/Rickman endurance horse sire. See info on Tambourine Man above. “Fancy” has a wonderful two year old gelding by Johnny B. Goode (Rowdy Yates/Dainty Bess) that we named “Napoleon Solo”. “Napoleon” will be shown at halter by owner 8 year old Callie Widon starting at the AIHR National this fall. He makes us proud that we were able to purchase Fancy from Earl Wessel’s Rockin’ EZ Ranch. With luck, Fancy will be a champion producer as soon as Napoleon is under saddle; he’s just that good. We are really looking forward to Fancy’s Tam baby. It should have size, looks, and trainability second to none.

Give us a call at 903-935-9980 (home), 903-4070298 (Vik's cell) or 903-407-5544 (Tommi's cell) if you'd like to discuss our 2008 foals or any other Karma Farms horses for sale. There is no substitutute of proven performing bloodlines, superior conformation and that well-known Karma Farms trainabilty. If you aren't riding one, you're likely to have to beat one. Our horses have won more registry awards than any other Colonial Spanish (or Spanish Mustang or "O" Indian Horse) breeding farm in the world. Why not the best? As my Dad used to say, "You can feed the good ones as cheaply as you feed the others."
